PART I - General Job / Performance Information Education and Experience High school diploma or its equivalent (GED) is required. One (1) year of confirmed mechanical experience or enrollment in an industry recognized trade school or college. Some experience in working on various systems including electrical, air conditioning, heating, braking, and power train systems. Adequate knowledge of EMS vehicles, and related vehicle on board equipment. Knowledge of safe shop practices and proper use and care of tools and equipment used in automotive and mechanical repair work. Environmental / Working Conditions The position involves considerable physical activity with exposure to safety hazards normally associated with repair work on automobiles and heavy equipment. While most work is done inside a shop, on occasion the employee makes repairs to equipment in the field at the scene of an emergency, which may involve exposure to hazardous conditions. Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships The EMS fleet mechanic helper must respond in a helpful and considerate manner to the needs of patients, family members, other health care providers, public safety and law enforcement personnel, EMS students, volunteers, and fellow employees Job Description Responsible for assisting with limited repairs, adjustments and preventative maintenance service and checks on UMC Lubbock EMS and UMC own vehicles in accordance with prescribed PM policies and procedures. Transports vehicles to the EMS maintenance shop and to other vendors as needed. Assist with restocking and picking up parts and supplies. Responds to road service calls and takes call every other weekend. Performs general shop cleanup everyday before leaving. Repairs and replaces tires as needed. Required Licensures / Certifications / Registrations Class C driving permit by the Texas Department of Public Safety with no driving while intoxicated (DWI) convictions or any other factors, which would preclude insurability, is required. ASE certifications are desirable. Physical Capabilities Frequently exerts a medium amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull and move objects. Frequently work involves standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching and kneeling. Occasionally work involves sitting, climbing stairs, climbing ladders and crawling. Skills and Abilities High degree of knowledge of various types of vehicles diagnostic testing and analysis equipment is essential. The ability to read and comprehend technical manuals is essential. Familiar with fleet operations is preferred. Requires effective verbal and written communications skills, and the ability to interact with tact and courtesy and maintain a professional demeanor. Knowledge of the methods, equipment, and materials used in servicing emergency vehicles is essential. Basic E-mail and internet skills required.
