Tradesman - Project Team/Carpenter **Requisition ID** 9524BR **Work Location** Lubbock **Org Level 1** Texas Tech University **Campus** Texas Tech University **Department** Ops Div Bldg Maint & Const **Position Description** Safely performs journeyman level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. **Major/Essential Functions** Working knowledge and ability to safely perform skills of the construction/carpentry field. Working knowledge of operation and safe use of all power and hand tools/equipment common to the construction/carpentnery field including: hammers, saws, pry bars, chisels, levels, drills, table saws, circular saws, sanders, jib saws, power planes, drill press, jointers, shapers, routers, cut-off saws, etc. Proficiency in interpretation of freehand sketches, schematics, blueprints, as-built drawings, diagrams and technical publications. Must have a valid drivers license and ability to operate university vehicles. Must meet minimum physical fitness requirements. Must pass pulmonary function test and be certified to wear negative pressure respirator. Assesses job or project material requirements and prepares requisition for materials from supply warehouse or vendor. Reviews job or project material requirements and prepares cost estimates. Maintains records of materials and labor expended for each project or job assignment. Attends scheduled meetings and training as required to maintain technical skills and qualifications. Participates in emergency callback rotation if needed. Supports the Project Team as needed. Repairs and/or installs acoustical suspended ceilings, ceramic or floor tiles, brick or CMU blocks. Repairs and/or installs and finishes concrete, floor covering. Repairs and water-proofs various types of roofs. Constructs, repairs and installs doors, cabinets, shelves, windows and wood and/or glass panels. Performs alterations to existing structures by install or removing walls, partitions and similar construction. **Required Qualifications** Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent.
