Our proprietary systems perform a range of tasks, from making real-time weed spraying decisions to processing huge amounts of plant image data to generate useful metrics for plant breeders. Our team of 40 comes from diverse backgrounds in robotics, computer vision, agriculture, and business. We receive support and investment from venture capital firms, including Khosla Ventures and Data Collective as well as grant funding.

Position description
The project uses droned-based cameras and lasers to measure crop traits, such as height and leaf area, to advance corn and sorghum breeding. We are looking for a technician to collect and process drone imagery from our heavy-lift multirotor drone to image crops at research farms near Lubbock, TX. This position will assist with analyzing the imagery collected by the drone, as well as assisting the pilot during flight to ensure the target area is covered and in maintaining line-of-sight with the aircraft. The flights will be at an agricultural research center in Lubbock, TX as well as satellite locations within one hour of Lubbock. The project is funded by the ARPA-e TERRA program, under which Blue River Technology was awarded a grant to perform this research and development. In addition, the Lubbock team will be conducting flights to support other Blue River projects.

Tasks and responsibilities will include:
• Monitoring flight path and data coverage during flight
• Converting drone imagery to crop measurements and maps
• Analyzing image quality and transferring data
• Supporting flight operations (setting up equipment, charging batteries, working with pilot to troubleshoot issues, etc.

The ideal candidate:
• Interested in learning image processing
• Organized, detail oriented
• Passionate about improving agriculture and unmanned aircraft technology
• Lives within 50 miles of Lubbock, TX

Basic familiarity with Windows; no programming or image processing experience required.
Preferably either a current undergraduate in engineering, computer science or already have B.S.

• $25 per hr, full-time (40 hours per week) from April 17 to Sep 29, 2017
